On my larger round boards, I used to rout out a dovetail pocket and make a wooden slider. By the time the holes were drilled, the boards were otherwise finished, so to lose boards at this stage was infuriating. So deep in fact that the wood grain would often bend the drill bit so the hole would break out of the bottom of the board and ruin it. When I made three track boards, they needed six pegs inside, so I had to drill deeper. ![]() ![]() This was neater, but sometimes the pegs got wedged inside. Crude, but effective.Īfter some months, I started drilling bigger holes in the end, so the pegs could be stored inside the board. When I first started making boards, I used to drill four small holes into the end my boards. ![]()
